Observation Narrative
Plot location: The plot lies 1 mile North of Cheney School at Fort Belvoir-lower slope East of "Y" in woods roads.
The wetland is gently sloping and represents a groundwater discharge site. The occurrence is quite small, ca. 0.5 acres. Plants indicative of groundwater seepage are Carex laevivaginata, Magnolia virginana, Aster puniceus, and Virnum nudum. The habitat appeared suitable for Carex collinsii and Helonias bullata, but these species did not occur.
